Mentorship York: 15 Years of Transforming Emerging Professionals into Community Leaders

Published Spring 2025

For the past 15 years, Mentorship York has been a powerful catalyst for emerging professionals across York County. Designed to accelerate leadership success through one-on-one mentorship and dynamic group sessions, the program continues to shape individuals into impactful, community-minded leaders.

Each year, Mentorship York attracts accomplished professionals who are not only eager to grow their leadership skills but also passionate about amplifying their impact in the region. With guidance from seasoned community leaders, participants gain tools, insights, and relationships that extend far beyond the program.

The ripple effects of this experience are felt deeply—by participants, their organizations, and the broader community. Two standout alumni, Mieke Driscoll and Josh Carney, members of the program’s inaugural class in 2011, offer a glimpse into the lasting impact of Mentorship York.

“Mentorship York was an invaluable experience for me at just the time that I needed it,” Mieke reflects. “I deeply appreciated the wisdom and advice from my mentor, and I was so thrilled to have the opportunity to spend extended time with the community leaders who were the other mentors.”

For Mieke, the program’s unexpected gift came in the form of strong peer relationships. “The relationships I formed with my cohort were a bonus—I respect that group a lot and have really enjoyed the opportunities to work with them again in our professional lives and call on their counsel when needed (and vice versa). Mentorship York was a really special experience that I find I draw on often.”

Josh’s journey to Mentorship York came at a turning point in his life. “Fifteen years ago, I was in a place of uncertainty,” he recalls. “I had just experienced significant loss—my mom in 2008 and my dad in 2010—and was trying to navigate the challenges of starting my own business during the recession.”

Without the built-in support network he once had, Josh was looking for guidance. “That’s when I saw an ad for Mentorship York,” he says. “Having previously gone through the Leadership Training Program, I decided to give it a shot.”

Josh was paired with mentor Dave Meckley—someone, he says, who was completely different from him. “And I’m incredibly thankful for that,” he says. “Being mentored by someone with a totally different perspective was transformative. It didn’t just change how I lead—it changed how I approach business.”

That mentorship taught Josh to take big ideas and break them into actionable steps. “Dave held me accountable in ways I never expected, and that accountability has shaped the way I approach both work and life to this day.”

Today, Josh serves as a mentor in the same program that helped him find his footing. “The bond I share with Dave is still strong, and we speak regularly. I owe much of my success to the way Mentorship York reshaped how I think, work, and lead.”

A Legacy of Leadership

As Mentorship York celebrates its 15th anniversary, stories like Mieke’s and Josh’s are a testament to the program’s deep and enduring impact. The connections forged, the lessons learned, and the confidence gained continue to empower alumni as they grow into leadership roles across York County—and beyond.

Whether they’re mentoring the next generation or making a difference in their own circles of influence, Mentorship York alumni prove that leadership isn't just about title or position—it's about purpose, connection, and community.
